Today in Burbank the ‘House of Mouse’ did what we already know. The king-maker of media has just made Netflix the undisputed king of the streaming over the top video platform wars. In a press release today Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq:NFLX) and The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) announced a new multi-year licensing agreement that will make Netflix the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run live-action and animated feature films from The Walt Disney Studios.
Troubling news is coming out of East Africa this week. International news media site Al Jazeera has just picked up that on May 24th 2012, Ethiopia ratified new legislation called the ‘Ethiopian Telecom Service Infringement Law’. The Legislation criminalizes any third-party Internet services not run by the state controlled telecom monopoly, Ethio Telecom, with Skype being a focus. However, the ban affects other services, such as Google Talk.
