Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64 just got unofffical Co-Op Multiplayer

Super Mario 64

The classic Mario Brothers title Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 has just gotten a very cool new update in homebrew hacked roms. With a little hacker rom magic Super Mario 64 now has Co-OP. Video after the bump!

Released on the Youtube user Skelux’s channel is the trailer and also this note:

After years of roaming the worlds in Super Mario 64 alone, you can now do so with a friend! Just as Nintendo had originally planned, this modification turns all of Super Mario 64 multiplayer.

If I didn’t make it clear, the patch must be applied to an original 8mb Super Mario 64 (U) rom.

After I finish some more debugging of this, the boundary patch, and Star Road, I’ll get back to work on Star Road 2 and hopefully have a little more luck designing the first level. A multiplayer version of Star Road will likely be released in a week or so.

It will be intresting to see what reaction might come from Nintendo. The Nintendo DS game Super Mario 64 DS included four player co-op as well. It too was basically a hack of the original game too.
